Shot many years ago on the wonderful Kenyan coast at Kilifi with my long-departed Canon 1D MkII equipped with the also-departed Canon EF 300mm f2.8 lens (big Bertha)
I recently rediscovered many images from that era on a trawl through the archives and I have given them an additional polish with Lightroom tweaks that weren’t available back in the day.

A female golden palm weaver brings a grub to the nest building party. All a bit one-sided really since the male does all the work of building the most beautiful spherical nest while the missus looks on. Not sure if she passed this tasty tidbit onto the male or whether she munched on it reflectively. I do know that she ultimately rejected the nest that took two days of hard work to build.

It has been a while since I posted. Many reasons for that, but there is now a pile of images in the in-tray. Here’s the first. Kamala beach on 10 June in the early morning with a rapidly advancing storm – it’s the monsoon season here in Phuket.

This carpenter bee spent several hours buzzing around the stand of bamboo outside our front door returning many times to improve on a neat hole he was making in a main stem. These bees are totally harmless but get bad press as a result of the damage they do to wood.
We get many in the garden in Italy as well where they are great if clumsy pollinators — their navigation system doesn’t seem to be the best in that they often fly straight into things, like people. I’ll put a set of these shots in the gallery.

Welcome to the revamped dgcPhoto site, complete with a new theme and a new look.
I’ve been rather busy with other things for a while, so I thought a makeover was more than overdue. I hope you like it.
In many ways, the site is the same as before except that with the new theme it’s easier to navigate and more efficient to load. And the layout is far cleaner.
I’m currently using two cameras: the truly excellent Canon 90D I bought several months ago that is streets ahead of any other camera I’ve owned over the years, and a Canon 100D that I’ve had for a couple of years — a really lightweight little workhorse. I am also using my iPhone SE far more than I expected. The latest OS makes it an incredibly versatile camera.
Keep checking out the galleries; the old ones have been reinstalled and new ones are being added.
