The golden yellow pheasant is a stunningly beautiful bird. According to various sources, it comes in a number of varieties, this one in the Hong Kong Park aviary is a variety (Chrysolophus pictus mut. luteus) created in captivity back in the 1950s in Italy. The original Golden pheasant, which has a distinctly darker plummage, hails from central China.

Walking along Queen’s Road Central last month, I came face to face with a life-size bronze sculpture of a naked man – something of a surprise in the normally very conservative Hong Kong. Turns out he was one of thirty-one statues of an outside exhibition called ‘Event Horizon’ by the British sculptor Antony Gormley. Four of the statues are at street level while the rest, which are fibre glass, are on the top of high-rise buildings looking as if they might be about to jump. Here are two of them, one on top of Prince’s Building and the other in Hong Kong Park.
The exhibition has also been staged in Rotterdam, New York, Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro.

The very attractive Bali myna is not related to other mynas, being restricted to the island of Bali and the island’s only endemic vertebrate species. Critically endangered, there are programs in place to try to raise numbers and stop illegal trading.
There are far more Bali mynas in zoos and bird parks around the world than in the wild, including this one that is one of several in Hong Park’s excellent aviary.

Welcome to the revamped dgcPhoto site, complete with a new theme and a new look.
I’ve been rather busy with other things for a while, so I thought a makeover was more than overdue. I hope you like it.
In many ways, the site is the same as before except that with the new theme it’s easier to navigate and more efficient to load. And the layout is far cleaner.
I’m currently using two cameras: the truly excellent Canon 90D I bought several months ago that is streets ahead of any other camera I’ve owned over the years, and a Canon 100D that I’ve had for a couple of years — a really lightweight little workhorse. I am also using my iPhone SE far more than I expected. The latest OS makes it an incredibly versatile camera.
Keep checking out the galleries; the old ones have been reinstalled and new ones are being added.
