Spotted wood owl

A rather sleepy spotted wood owl (Strix seloputo) at the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park last month. But with half an eye on the world, maybe he was keeping half an eye on me.

Scarce swallowtail butterfly

As far as I know, there is actually nothing scarce about his species; it’s just a name. Certainly there were dozens of them feast on the lavender flowers in our garden in Tuscany last summer when this shot was taken. Canon 100D with Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro ISO 800 1/1000 at f6.3 [socialring]

Common blue

These guys love exploring the sixty+ lavender bushes in our Tuscan garden when the bushes are in full flower. Part of the appeal of these quite small butterflies is the delicate blue upper sides of the wings and the contrasting highly patterned lower sides. Canon 100D with Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro ISO 800 1/1000 at f6.3. Cropped in LR. [socialring]

Peacock

This rather fine specimen, one from a very definite ostentation of peacocks at the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, was very happy to strike a pose for me. December 2019. Canon 100D with Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens at163mm ISO 800 f8 at 1/80 [socialring]

Barred eagle owl

This beautiful barred eagle owl (Bubo sumatranus), also know as the Malaysian eagle owl, was at the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. Photographed December 18th 2019 using a Canon 100D with an EF-S 55-250mm IS STM zoom lens at 250mm, ISO 800 f5.6 1/80; cropped to a square on LR [socialring]
