White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher

White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher (Melaenornis Fischeri). This race of the species has a particularly conspicuous broad eye-ring and is found in Kenya and parts of Uganda and Tanzania. (Ref. Birds of East Africa: Stevenson & Fanshawe; a truly excellent book). This one popped up in a garden in Nanyuki, Kenya some years ago.

Golden Palm Weaver

Male Golden palm weaver taking a breather while involved in the complex task of weaving a beautiful nest.

Shot many years ago on the wonderful Kenyan coast at Kilifi with my long-departed Canon 1D MkII equipped with the also-departed Canon EF 300mm f2.8 lens (big Bertha)

I recently rediscovered many images from that era on a trawl through the archives and I have given them an additional polish with Lightroom tweaks that weren’t available back in the day.

Apocalyptic sunset

Armageddon? End of the world? Nah – just another glorious monsoon-season sunset over Kamala Bay 25 May 2020 6.37 pm taken from our balcony! Magico.

Kamala Beach Storm

It has been a while since I posted. Many reasons for that, but there is now a pile of images in the in-tray. Here’s the first. Kamala beach on 10 June in the early morning with a rapidly advancing storm – it’s the monsoon season here in Phuket.

Shot taken on an iPhone SE and enhanced in Lightroom.

The Moon and Venus 2

The moon setting over Kamala. Now four days old, it was pretty well lined up with the setting Venus.

and with Canon 55-250mm IS STM lens at 250mm ISO1600 1/640 at f5.6

Cape Robin-chat 2

Another shot of this inquisitive little bird, this time checking out the local scene from the advantage of a branch more commonly perched on by one of the many common fiscal shrikes around the place.
