Strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) – fruits and flowers, and a couple of late-autumn bees still pollinating. Native to the Mediterranean and Western Europe including Ireland, where it’s variously known as the Irish strawberry tree, cane apple or Killarney strawberry tree, it’s not related to the common strawberry plant and the fruit are rather pasty. Apparently they make quite good jam. Anyway, it’s an evergreen that adds colour and shape to our garden.

The first bloom on our new Camellia Sasanqua, a beautiful autumn- and winter-flowering variety to add some colour to the terrace.
