Scarce swallowtail butterfly

As far as I know, there is actually nothing scarce about his species; it’s just a name. Certainly there were dozens of them feast on the lavender flowers in our garden in Tuscany last summer when this shot was taken. Canon 100D with Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro ISO 800 1/1000 at f6.3

Common blue

These guys love exploring the sixty+ lavender bushes in our Tuscan garden when the bushes are in full flower. Part of the appeal of these quite small butterflies is the delicate blue upper sides of the wings and the contrasting highly patterned lower sides. Petunia

A common and garden petunia flower, this one in our garden in Tuscany back in the summer, Canon 100D with CanonES-F 60mm f2.8 macro USM ISO 400 1/1250 at f6.3
