Crane flypast

A flock of forty-eight cranes heading north today, issuing instructions to each other with their bugle-like honking. They must have spotted Arezzo in the distance since they sudden;y turned sharp east and flew straight over our valley – a rare treat. If these guys are heading north, spring must be on the way – rather early!

Soggy Coucal

This Greater coucal was not learning to fly, rather it had been soaked during a particularly heavy tropical rainstorm in Phuket – the shot was taken in July 2020. The second shot shows this strange and ungainly bird once it had regained its equilibrium and was about to fly down to the ground to feast on a lunch of snails.
